Brighton
This page is about some of the work I created over the 3 months I was enrolled my brief time studying at the North Brooke Metropolitan College for Brighton and Hove. I have a bit of sketching, painting and a mini sculpture design of an immersvie piece.

Over the year 2020 during lockdown, I decided to \apply for a part-time fine art degree in Brighton at Northbrook College. The photography below was from that summer. Unfortunately, I lost a lot of my work from that time, so what is shown over the next two pages is mostly what I have left. I was living in a caravan in Bristol at the time and commuting two days a week down to Brighton. The caravan and the site I was living on at the time became my first subject to work. Unfortunately, I was not able to complete the course as I developed and was diagnosed with psychosis and had to drop out of the course.

This was a large piece done from life drawing. We we’re asked o layer multiple positions/poses the model was in, I used a mix of charcoal and acrylic paint.
It was the first life drawing I had done since A-levels.
This painting on the right is an example of one of three first oil experiments. We used Zesti as a thinner and in large a larger ratio to paint it made this very fun pattern that I later revisited.
We we’re looking at creating abstract pieces from the flow of the brush paying attention to what marks we’re being made and running with those areas. We did not start with an image or reference in mind. The middle image was the first and the other two we’re repeats of the process, led and advised by the tutors about what to push and what to pull back from. We could only use complimentary colour’s for this exercise.
This was an exercise in graphite transfer paper. I started tracing an original drawing, then repeated this image to create a pattern, from this pattern I then chose a specific area that was then going to become a larger work.

For this task we had to design and create a mini sculpture around an immersive art piece inspired by our current subject of interest (at the time I decided to base this on the site I was living in over lockdown).
My main inspiration came from how you would hear sound and see light from inside the caravan, the different kind of footsteps on different materials and how you could see through other windows through to the other side.
The idea of the immersive experience is that you follow through path ways in the dome, each pathway has two different kind of materials on each side, some you can see more of some you can't. You'll be able to peak through the layers in different ways and see people in different parts of the layers.
Each pathways has a different kind of flooring so the noise of your footsteps is different depending on which section you are in.
I wanted the walls to be made out of different materials giving a different feel as you walk through, from sheer mesh, to more constructed areas of metal that would reflect light on the surface and the space would act as a gateway into another area (world). I loved the idea as you walk through that you can make out people roughly depending on where you are but things are still hidden and the way in which you see them is dictated and changed depending on which different kid of wall you had. I wanted the sound of the footsteps to give like a clue and help identify where others could be, the ground for instance from gravel, to hard wood, to concrete or stone, each one changing the quality of peoples footsteps and also interacting differently depending on someone's shoes.
